Moose Jaw’s “gem” Wakamow Valley will see major upgrades thanks to funding from the valley authority, federal and provincial governments.
Upgrades will include the rebuilding of the Assinaboine walking bridge, the retrofitting of the Cree walking bridge for safer pedestrian access and upgrading the pathway linking the two bridges.
The federal, provincial and Wakamow Valley Authority each contributed $314,624 for the project, which has a total cost of $943,872.
Ray Boughen, MP for Palliser, made the announcement on Friday at the skating oval on behalf of Lynne Yelich, minister for Western Economic Diversification, from the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program.
It is just one of many announcements for funding he has made this week as part of his constituency week. He explained to the Times-Herald he has a constituency week about once every four weeks so uses the time to visit as many places as possible.
Boughen said he was thrilled about the funding for Wakamow as he had grown up in the area.
