The feds are helping fix the floors for a local seniors association.

On Monday, Palliser MP Ray Boughen announced federal support for Caronport Golden Age Association Inc. under the federal government’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.

“The government is very committed to working with seniors,” Boughen told the Times-Herald. “The fact is seniors helped build the community and continue to play an important role in Caronport.”

Boughen made the announcement on behalf of Human Resources and Skills Development Minister Diane Finley, as well as Minister of State Diane Ablonczy.

Caronport Golden Age Association will receive $22,298 for facility renovations. The renovations will include repairs to the flooring in the building so seniors and others in the community can continue to participate in recreational and social activities.

Capital Assistance funding helps non-profit organizations upgrade facilities or equipment required for existing seniors’ programs and activities. The Caronport project among 645 that were approved through 2009-2010 calls for proposals, providing over $8.5 million in funding through the Capital Assistance funding stream.
