The events planned to celebrate the Olympic Torch Relay going through Regina perhaps were best described by Joan McCusker, who said it will be hard for one individual to take in all of them.

"It is going to be spectacular," said McCusker, who won Olympic gold in 1998 and who recently has been charged with co-ordinating the provincial efforts around promoting the relay.

"There's so much going on, it's going to be hard to try to take in everything. What a tremendous effort that is, if you've got so many activities that one person would have trouble trying to take all of them in."

Many will check out the main stage events that begin on Saturday at 6 p.m. The main stage will be in the parking lot of the Regina Sportplex, the complex that includes both the Lawson Aquatic Centre and the Fieldhouse.

The torch relay itself will start at 6:12 p.m. at Park Street and Victoria Avenue. The torch will make its way to the main stage in the Sportplex parking lot by about 7 p.m. In the preceding hour, those waiting at the main stage for its arrival can take in lots of entertainment, including videos and cultural performances. Jason Plumb and The Willing are to play before the relay arrives.

After the torch procession arrives at the main stage, and Callie Morris, community torchbearer, lights the cauldron, the national anthem will be featured in English, French and Cree. More entertainment and speeches will take up the next hour, until a display of fireworks brings the celebration to close at 8 p.m.
