Palliser MP Ray Boughen said he spent a very informative six days in Europe talking about the economy and security issues.
The Conservative Member of Parliament was selected to represent Canada at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Assembly in Paris and the NATO Assembly in Brussels.
“It was very good and very informative,” he said. “There were some very good speakers at Nato Parliament Assembly and the OECD Assembly.
“In Brussels, there were discussions around economics and security. The two committees met and talked about the world economy and the economic side of the coin and what people are doing to create jobs. Almost everyone is following Canada’s lead on completing projects ongoing in 2010 and 2011 but not introducing new projects,” he said.
Boughen said security issues in Afghanistan and Iraq were also discussed.
“There were a number of countries that brought forward their thoughts on these issues,” he said. “99 per cent of countries there approved the action the allies are currently involved in so that was interesting,” he said.
In Paris at the OECD, Boughen said discussions related to the social impact of the economic crisis.
