Get ready, Saskatchewan. It's that time of year when we stand on guard for thee -- and have an excuse to launch fireworks.

Cities and towns around the province are getting ready for Canada Day celebrations.  In Regina, the Wascana Centre Authority is playing host to a fun-packed day of activities, starting with a 21-gun salute from the Royal Canadian Artillery's 10th Field Regiment at noon.

"We love having all the events at the park," said Bernadette McIntyre, chief executive officer of the authority. "We want everyone to have a good time and to be safe."

The Saskatchewan Science Centre, Regina Fire Department, Regina Astronomy Club and Saskatchewan Taekwon-do Federation will be on the Wascana grounds giving demonstrations.  In addition, there will be a petting zoo, a magic show, face-painting and performances by the Saskatchewan Youth Orchestra, Christine-Anne Blondeau and the University of Regina cheerleading team.

Playing on the main stage throughout the day are musicians JJ Voss, Tongue Jungle and Sass Jordan.
Fans can swap their red attire for green as the Rider game will be shown on a screen at the main stage at 5 p.m.

There will also be a kids' stage featuring several comedians and musicians.  Food vendors and beer gardens will be set up throughout the day.

Fireworks at 10:15 p.m. over Wascana Lake will close out the celebrations. Spectators are asked to bring their own lawnchairs if they wish to sit during the display.
