The federal government has announced $20,000 in funding for the Southern Plains Metis Local 160 in Moose Jaw. The funding will allow young Metis to interview seniors in the Metis community to allow them to remember their past, comment on the present and think about the future. The project is called "Looking Back, Moving Forward Towards New Horizons".
The interviews will be made into a video that will allow these stories to be passed down to Metis youth in the future and to share those stories with the commuity at large. The vice-president of the Southern Plains Metis local 160, says he hopes the video presentation will be ready in time for this year's Festival of Words.
Pallliser MP Ray Boughen announced the funding in Moose Jaw Tuesday. "It's pretty exciting I think... it'll allow people from the grassroots kind of operation to have a chance to develop that kind of a relationship with each other, seniors with the youth of the Metis nation", Boughen said. "And then bring forward a position we can all look at and buy into".
